We’ve all been there: finally feeling at the top of our game, mastering meal prep, not missing any workout class… and feeling a bit concerned about disrupting your routine with an upcoming trip. Fear no more! Here are our top tips to keep the motivation and staying fit for when travelling.
1. Walk. Everywhere.
Often, there is absolutely no reason to take the public transport, even less a car, when visiting a city. Of course, it takes more time to get from point A to point B, but you get to experience so much more of a destination: getting a bit lost, falling on a cute coffee shop, watching people live their daily lives… That means lots and lots of walking. During my last trip to Buenos Aires I realized I had been walking for about 4h a day without noticing. Perfect balance with the dozens of alfajores I had been eating!
2. Pack some snacks
When travelling, you often leave your hotel or apartment all day – it’s always a good idea to pack some snacks, in case you get hungry with no healthy option in sight. You can bring some from home with you or visit the corner supermarket and discover local healthy snacks: nut bars, dried fruits, nuts, fruits.
3. Get creative with picnics
Tomatoes, cucumber and hummus for dinner sounds a bit boring? What about tomatoes, cucumber and hummus on the beach, watching the sunset for dinner? Much better, right? It’s also a lot more healthy and (bonus) cheap! Drop by the local market, get your hands on some veggies, cheese, fresh bread and wine, and make it a sightseeing picnic.
4. Subscribe to a Yoga Class
Look for “yoga class in English + destination” when planning for your next trip and you’ll be sure to find a few studios offering classes for tourists and expats. It’s a great way to stay in shape, reconnect with yourself and meet locals. Did you know we offered this kind of activity in our Move experience? 5. Hop on a Bike Tour
Why not discover your next destination on a bike tour with other travellers? You’ll get a totally different perspective on the city while getting your heart pumping. I personally had a great time with Bike and Bites in Buenos Aires ! Did you know we offered this kind of activity in our Move experience?
